Virus scanner Avast 2015 checks router and network security

Anti-virus company Avast released the 2015 version of their virus scanner which also checks the security of routers to which the computer connects. Avast Home Network Security  scans for misconfigured Wi-Fi networks, routers with weak or default passwords, Internet accessible and vulnerable routers, compromised Internet connections, and enabled, but not protected, IPv6.

The virus scanner also lists all devices connected to the network so users can remove unknown devices from their network. In case the scanner finds issues with the router or network the software gives advices on how to solve them. Avast claims that nearly 80% of all routers use a password that can be easily cracked. Home Network Security is a feature now available in all versions of Avast 2015, including the free version.

Additional features and enhancements in Avast 2015, besides the inclusion of Home Network Security, include DNS-hijacking prevention, HTTPS scanning, reduced in-product messaging or pop ups, a simplified and more fun user experience, and faster software updates to improve performance and deliver greater privacy and security.
