$60 too much for a game?

This early in the console battle we can conclude that not many people are willing to drop sixty bucks for a game. Game industry veteran Kelly Flock openly states that he 'hates the $60 price point'. With an executive vice president of THQ saying this, we might be at a turning point.

Supported by numbers and facts Flock states that not many want to pay the sixty dollars. This statement proved by strong secondhand console game sales show us that last year executives at Activision were not right. These executives said that consumers weren't bothered by the price point.

With everybody disliking the current price point some introduce different business models... Free gaming, a game pumped full with ads and 30 seconds commercial blocks around the clock. With Flock calling retail an 'endangered species' we could say that we need a different model, but not the free one.

Does anyone have an idea how to drop the price, but to continue the production in its current (or better) quality?
