A bad sign for SD2 backuppers?

Since some time, the latest Philips CDR drives don't support "Correct EFM encoding of regular bit patterns" anymore. This is bad news, since this piece of technology is needed to make a good working SD2 backup...

As is to be found on CDRInfo, these drives won't be copying SD2 anymore:

CDRW-1612A (Atapi)

CDRW-2010 (Atapi)

DVDRW-1208 (Atapi)

DVD+RW-D01 (Atapi)

CDRWDV 2010

RW12x8/DVD

RW16x8/DVD

RW12x10/DVD

RW16x10/DVD (Atapi)

Is this a bad sign? Are the big companies turning against us and collaborating with the copyright-institutions? Let's not hope so, because this could be the beginning of the end?

Either way, I can still live with the fact of Philips letting us down and Plextor making us happy (SD2 backupping with a new Plextor -24x- ain't a problem )...
