We seem to get a lot of visitors in the CD Freaks Forums that are curious as to what copy protection is being used on a particular software purchase. Sure, it's possible to search the forum, or even some databases about the Net, but, wouldn't it be handy to determine these protections yourself? Or, maybe you just like to know how things work.
Then you need to know about copy protection scanners and you need to know how to use them. What you will find is like everything, some work better than others or some are updated more often. So what's the difference between the software scanners, which ones do you need, why are there so many?
Moderator Womble, has put together another one of his help guides and inspects seven different protection scanners for us. By quickly learning how these scanners operate, you can familiarize yourself with them and then you can do some investigatory work on your own. Here is the introduction to the guide:

Currently in this thread are the following copy protection scanner guides.
|
With this guide, you are taken step by step, using screenshots, on each individual program. Within each section, you can read what are some typical settings or parameters for each application to help you get aquainted with their use. So, why not visit the Copy Protection Forum and take a look? Thanks Womble, for taking the time once again, to put something like this together, it makes it easy to see how to utilise these programs, even for us novices.
Once completing the guide, then head on over to the Identify Copy Protection, Helpful Hints, Posting Rules thread posted by another hard working moderator, FutureProof. There, you can learn some helpful, additional background information and also find links to download any of the above scanners. Not only that, you will read there how to properly retrieve or share any information on this subject efficiently within the forum, as the different posting areas are listed there. We hope between these two pages you will find the answers to your back up problems, or can add your own contributions and experiences.
In the meantime, if you see these two moderators online
(or any of them, as far as that goes) make sure to give them a shout and say:
"Hey thanks!" We sure appreciate their enthusiasm and help around the site. The
