A new standard for eSATA?

According to a news published at Ars Technica, the SATA-IO (Serial ATA International Organization) has announced that it's working on a new standard aimed at delivering power over eSATA. The goal is to deliver enough power down an eSATA connection to run a single 2.5" drive.

At the moment, eSATA connection requires an external power supply, making it more cumbersome compared to USB and Firewire standards.

The first results should be available sometime in the second half of 2008.
