AOL Time Warner Inc. AOL.N said Thursday it released a new version of its real-time messaging service, ICQ, that lets users share files as well as swap messages with cell phones enabled for short messaging service (SMS). |
The new version -- 2001b -- comes as AOL's rivals improve their own messaging services in hopes of gaining some market share.
The company said the new version of ICQ will offer a multilingual spell checker, new emotions icons, as well as "send" controls that allow users to send messages simultaneously as an instant message, an email or an SMS text message and to receive a response from any of these, even from non-ICQ members using SMS-enabled mobile phones.
