Allready without any hardware improvements the ATI Radeon is faster than it's rival Geforce 3, eventhough Nvidia released it's Detonator 4 driver.
Rumor is growing that we'll see the Radeon 8500 released at 300mhz, not the 250mhz that the original preview cards were clocked at. The 75million tris/s spec quoted on the Radeon 8500 web page, vs. the 62.5million tris/s spec quoted on the 8500DV web page suggests this to be the case as well, as we know from initial previews that the 62.5million tris/s number corresponds to a 250mhz core clock. If possible, can you confirm this? |
JohnC (Director of Public Relations at ATI):
[The] RADEON 8500 will ship at 275/275 in early October.
Not only will the Radeon get an extra 25 MHz (previews were talking about 250 MHz), Rage 3D reports that the newest drivers boost performance up to 20%, compared to the framerates we saw in the previews...
Nvidia really took advantage of the situation with it's Geforce cards. And now they'll pay for what they did. The ATI Radeon is now the fastest Graphics Card, also without the clock improvements.
