The solid state flash disk manufacturer Adtron has announced the availability of what it claims to be the industry's highest capacity 2.5" Solid State Flash disk with a capacity of 160GB. It has also announced other capacities in its Flashpak family of products consisting of IDE and Serial ATA flash models ranging between 4GB and 160GB.
Its I25FB features the ArrayPro Performance Engine, which improves performance through parallel access and management of multiple flash arrays within the drive. Unlike low-end single array based flash drives, this technology does away with caching technologies dependant on battery back-up while also delivering up to 70MB/s read & write performance. Not only does this throughput exceed that of traditional 2.5" hard disks for portable computers, these also feature no seek time.
The A25FB is much like the I25FB, but with addition of its "Erasure Data Security" technology designed to address the needs of companies and the Military dependant on high security. These solid state drives feature high speed data elimination capabilities.
It would be interesting to see what the pricing would be like and how long it will be before the pricing becomes affordable for the average consumer. The 160GB version would surely be the ultimate laptop hard disk replacement and potentially the ultimate desktop drive also.
