Last month we reported about anti piracy efforts in the Philippines and this week again the Philipine authorities did an action against music and software pirates.
The authorities raided a CD factory ran by pirates and seized nearly 1 billion pesos ($20 million) in pirated CDs and copying equipment and arrested seven Indonesian and five Chinese workers
The raid late Monday on a clandestine factory in Meycauyan, Bulacan province, is the latest step in a high-profile campaign by authorities against music and movie piracy. |
Last month, officials used steamrollers to crush 2 million pirated CDs, DVDs and cassettes seized from sidewalk stalls and shops to show the Philippine government's efforts to stem the illegal industry.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ( news - web sites) said the raid "is not only a great help to the members of the entertainment industry who are being cheated, but also our reputation in the world."
Earlier this week we already reported about pirates in Bangkok and Malaysia. It seems that the Asian countries are currently trying to decrease their piracy level to not hurt relation with the United States.
