Aimster.com may loose domain name to AOL...

The Aimster.com Internet domain may have to be given to AOL (company behind AOL Instant Messenger).

In a 2-1 decision, a three-member panel from the Minneapolis-based National Arbitration Forum (NAF) ruled that Aimster founder Johnny Deep and his company, Buddy USA Inc., were essentially cybersquatting on the Aimster.com domain and three other addresses reminiscent of the instant-messenger software from AOL Time Warner's online division.

The decision, under a speedy dispute resolution procedure established by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), means that Deep's company may be forced to hand over the addresses - including the often-visited Aimster.com - to AOL.

Under ICANN's Uniform Domain-name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), Deep will have to gain a court's endorsement of his company's right to the addresses if he wants to prevent AOL from having its way with the domains.

They just can't handle the 'success' of Aimster? Aimster uses a sort of Napster-like file sharing process but uses the AOL's AIM buddy list. Aimster also registered ICQster.com and IC2ster.com More information about this case here

Also Aimster itself just recently launched a lawsuit against the music-industry in a move to stave off future copyright-infringement lawsuits. Now that's a nice move Read more about it in our previous posting.
