Also Gigabyte to enter optical storage industry, follows MSI and Asus


Gigabyte has announced it will become active on the optical storage market. The Taiwanese company mainly known for mainboards has made the step by partnering with the company Asour Technology. Earlier the other Taiwanese mainboard, and other, electronics giants MSI and Asus entered the market with CD-RW drives.

For the optical drive business, Asustek entered the market a few years ago with technology acquired through in-house R&D while MSI entered by partnering with Accesstek. Gigabyte paved its way into the market by establishing an alliance with optical drive manufacturer Asour Technology in March 2003. ECS has not yet announced plans to introduce optical drives.

Earlier we reported that Gigabyte would launch the  GO-M6000A, a CD-ROM drive that looks like a car audio player.
