On July the 30th Philips has posted the procedure for manufacturers to obtain the DVD+RW Mount Rainier specifications and the licensing for this. We were till now not aware that the Mount Rainier standard would also be used on DVD+RW discs, but it is of course a logical step forward.
The Mt. Rainier standard was developed to replace the floppy drive by making it easy for users to drag and drop files to a CD-RW in a fast and safe way. For more information on the standard you should read our article about it here.
Altough the standard is widely adopted there is still no Operating System that natively supports the standard. Expected is that Microsoft Windows XP will support it after the next Service Pack for this OS.
