tonkins used our news submit to tell us "Anandtech"s taken a look at another new DVD writer, and this time its Plextors PX-740A. Comparing it to the Summer 2005 16x DVDR Roundup they had a few weeks ago, it scores favourably, since its essentially the same drive as the winner of that roundup, the Benq DW1640. Although again, Anandtech has concentrated on total number of PI errors in order to estimate quality, the screenshots of the scans are available in a zip file for those freaks who wish to make a better comparison..."

With the exception of the Platinum brand DVD+/-R media, the PX-740A proved to be a competitor with drives such as NEC"s ND-3540A and Pioneer"s DVR-109D, and being at the same level as BenQ"s DW1640. Even when using mid-quality media, the PX-740A does not disappoint as many of the new generation drives have thus far.""Overall, though, Plextor offers a great drive at an affordable price and that"s what will attract customers in the end. We recommend the PX-740A to anyone looking for great performance and write quality at a decent price. |
Of course, we must all travel over to Anandtech to scope out the review in it's entirety. When you are finished, please come back and give us your thoughts on this Plextor drive. Thanks for the heads up and the summary there tonkins!
