In the war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray to become the dominant format, there is an update. According to news published at Ars Technica, Toshiba has announced the release of the first set of titles that support Internet connectivity features on second-generation HD DVD players.
Basically, it is possible to use an internet connection to download features not present on the disc like subtitles or other bonus features (interviews, trailers, etc).
I must confess that I seriously doubt that this will make HD-DVD more interesting than Blu-ray: when I insert a disc on the player, what I really like is to watch the movie immediately, without being forced to wait minutes because of all useless and really boring stuff like the anti-piracy spot or menus to be fully loaded. Adding more fancy but useless and boring stuff in my opinion will not make HD-DVD the winning format.
