Apple has released a new version of QuickTime version 6.5.1 which features audio and video encoding (export) and playback capabilities for 3G content. These include the 3GPP (.3gp) and 3GPP2 (.3g2) codec's that are built on MPEG-4 and designed for use on handheld 3G enabled devices. Recently Apple had confused some users by releasing version 6.3.1 even though the previous version as 6.5, however this has now been resolved.
Other features include AMC authoring and playback support, Unicode Text, enhanced DV Playback and an Apple Lossless Encoder. Apple's lossless audio codec enables users to store full CD-quality music at about half the storage space. Like ZIP files, no information is lost during encoding or decoding process. Since the introduction of iTunes, some QuickTime users are unhappy with its latest versions as QuickTime seems to be taking up the habit of Real Networks by pestering users about its products and services (such as iTunes) and encouraging the user to purchase its 'Pro' version as with previous QuickTime releases. However unlike Real Networks, they do not try to force or trick the user into downloading its premium 'Pro' version or keep annoying users with a pop-up 'message centre' that starts up with Windows.
