Apple iPhone 3.0 details revealed

The recent Apple iPhone 3.0 media event has created a whirlwind of news articles and anticipation for the latest Apple phone update.  There were dozens of different unconfirmed rumors regarding a lot of different features, and Apple finally confirmed some of the rumors.

Apple hopes its new operating system for the flagship phone will help attract people looking to purchase a smart phone, analysts believe.  Apple had 7.7 percent of the smart phone market in 2008, but that number could increase up to 11.8 percent in 2009 if analysts' predictions are correct.

Along with allowing phone owners to cut and paste text -- which is a new feature long-anticipated by current iPhone owners -- third-party developers will also have new tools to create apps that can be sold through iTunes.  The home screen of the iPhone now has a new voice memo feature so owners are able to record memos using voice rather than text.

Owners will now have hundreds of new uses for the iPhone, with more details to be rolled out as the launch date comes closer.  Electronic arts, Meebo, Oracle and ESPN also showed off new apps that iPhone users will be able to look forward to, with video game companies also showing off impressive new games.

The public release of Apple 3.0 is scheduled for sometime this summer, though Apple hasn't offered a specific release date.  Some analysts predict he update to be available during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is expected to take place sometime in June.
