Apple iTunes DRM cracked again

Good news if you have iTunes version 7!  The Hymn project has already found a way to remove the pesky protection from those downloaded songs.  Here's details on the program:

...QTFairUse6 works fine for converting one iTunes 7 song at a time, although apparently the function for batch converting an entire library of purchased songs doesn't work. In order to convert a single song, you'd just drag it from your iTunes Music folder onto the QTFairUse6.exe file and enter "Y" in the DOS command line interface that pops up.

So if you're looking to remove DRM from your iTunes songs, be sure to check out this article, which also includes links to programs that will convert the unprotected content back into MP3 format.

Of course, it would be nice if this kind of 'help' would discourage Apple and others from using DRM to protect songs.  However, since institutions like the RIAA want everyone to believe piracy is killing the music industry, it is hard to say what effect this program circumventing DRM will have, if any.  Here's to hoping that more consumers will start requesting DRM-free songs
and other efforts such as these will help pave the way to such a day.
