Apple leaves super CD/DVD recorder idling at top end

The CD Freaks visitors that are planning to buy an Apple computer with CD/DVD writing capabilities should consider cancelling other buys, because Apple with only include 'Apple's SuperDrive (CD-R/W + DVD-R)' in their most expensive model.

According to this article on Newsfactor.com, is Apple planning to ship three versions of their new consumer computer: the $1299 (CD-ROM) version, the $1499 (CD-R/W Combo) version and the $1799 (CD-R/W + DVD-R) model:

Anyone can get a computer equipped with a CD-R/W drive, but the CD-R/W and DVD-R drive included with the new top-end iMac is really the "target product" -- if it were offered at the introductory price of $1299.

I didn't buy the first iMac introduced back in 1998 because it lacked power and wasn't initially priced under $1000.

If Apple were wise, it would put its SuperDrive in the $1299 unit. The iMac then would be so revolutionary that even more PC owners would be willing to convert to this brilliant new machine.

Will It Grow?

But Apple continues to lose sight of what many devotees have been envisioning for the company, which is for the Macintosh to regain a larger percentage of PC market share. Instead, the company continues to pull high-profit-margin dollars out of the pockets of Mac loyalists. Will it ever learn?

I think the author is right, Apple might make good products, but the price isn't always right. Therefor most people will leave the Mac alone and buy themselves a Windows Intel/AMD computer and is the Apple more for high-end users.

I even read once somewhere on site; "Pirated software on an Apple ? If someone can buy an Apple, he will certainly be able to pay for the software !"
