BREIN to investigate software piracy themselves

DrJ used our newssubmit to tell us the follow up of last weeks story on the Dutch University of Twente being a large distributor of warez:

As you all know there's an organisation in the Netherlands called BREIN (BRAIN in English). We've posted the news about the University of Twente and the illegally spreading of software before but it seems that BREIN wants to take a more active role in finding and elliminating the illegal software.

According to the University's Chancelor T. Kuik, it's almost impossible to trace the origin of the software. "What we can do is to watch the use of bandwidth. If it get's out of proportions for certain people, we'll know that something unauthorised is going on." Brein is only able to check if they'll be hooked on to the campus-network. The University will decide if they're going to connect Brein to their network somewhere in the 2nd week of February.

The students are shocked by all the attention the media is giving to this. "Some students have received questions from their relatives & friends if it's true that the University is a source for the spreading of children pronography." said R. van de Meent, spokesman for the student usergroup of the University. "This has been blown way out of proportions!"

DrJ:
"Mmmmm.. I know for a fact that this aint only happening on the University in Twente. I'm pretty sure it happens on every campus on every University. I mean, come on, are you seriously going to waste all that bandwidth ?"
