Bands debut dual-sided CD/DVD hybrid

The Donnas and Simple Plan, two rock bands under the label
of the Warner Music Group released this week the first two albums on a new, so
called DualDisk. The Dual Disk is a new hybrid CD format that offers standard CD
audio on one side and the enhanced media capabilities of a DVD on the other
side.

The disk was designed to be compatible with most devices, including game consoles and personal computers.

The bands are now able to add special features, such as lyrics, photos, music videos or videos from behind the scene, to the disks and I think the fans will love this because the retailers are offering the disks about US $9.99 which is a price that is comparable to standard audio CDs.

The Warner Music Group plans to release more music albums on DualDisks next month and other recording companies are expected to issue this format in the coming weeks.

LOS ANGELES - A new hybrid CD format that offers standard CD audio on one side and the enhanced media capabilities of a DVD on the other made its nationwide debut this week.

The first new albums in the DualDisc format were released Tuesday by Warner Music Group rock bands The Donnas and Simple Plan.

Several DualDisc versions of existing albums were issued as part of a test in two cities earlier this year.

Is the recording industry on the way to introduce a new standard that gives the fans really more information about their favourite groups for the 'same" price, or is this just another try to reduce the amount of illegal music downloads from p2p networks?
