Currently we have seen that Lite-On and NEC drives can be flashed to dual layer drives and it seems that now BenQ also joins their ranks. An user has posted on our forum how he has 'overclocked' his BenQ DW800 to a DW822 drive. After that he even managed to upgrade the drive to a double layer capable DW830. internal tests of our site have shown that this is possible. However there is a
big BUT. Manufacturers report all that the failure chance of drives that are 'overclocked' and write to dual layer media is high. Not every drive will be suitable to write to double layer media. Samples send to press will likely be able as they are called golden samples and have been througly tested before send out to ensure that the drive is not defect and has the optimal performance so it's a drive that represents the production line and it's not a drive that is below average.
Therefor we advice anyone who wants to try this to be carefull and re-think if it's really usefull to 'overclock' the drive. Doing so also void warranty. Discuss this in our recently added BenQ Forum.
