BenQ cuts prices for ODD lineup in China market

D4rk0n3 used our news submit to tell us about this story he spotted over at DigiTimes.

BenQ, under pressure from Samsung cutting the price of its LightScribe 16x DVD burners in the China market, has followed suit by lowering retail prices by 12-15% for all of its optical disc drives (ODDs) available there, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

BenQ is one of the top four ODD brands in
the China market, the sources indicated. While Combo drives accounted for
70-80% of the total ODD sales volume in China last year, DVD burners will
account for the bulk of ODD sales this year due to price cuts that began
last quarter, the source noted.

This is certainly good news as the LightScribe technique is an interesting feature. Already prices
are pretty darn low for a LightScribe enabled drive. The Lite-On Black
ATAPI/E-IDE 5X DVD-RAM Write DVD Burner With LightScribe Model SHM-165H6S -
Retail can be had for less than 60 bucks online. (I just got mine yesterday with
some LS Discs!) The OEM version is even a few dollars cheaper.
Considering this thing has RAM, burning software and LightScribe capability
- it is amazing how cheap it already is! Now lets see what happens with this new
set of price breaks on Samsung and especially BenQ
burners.
