BenQ first to introduce 48X CD-ReWriter

Over at our friends from CDRLabs.com we can read a newspost regarding the upcoming BenQ writer. This is not just a new writer but it will be the fastest drive available today with amazingly high speeds of 48X recording, 16X re-writing and 48X reading:

BenQ, previously Acer Communications & Multimedia, brings one of the world's fastest CD-RW's to the market. The 48X CD-ReWriter, BenQ CRW4816P is one of the first to achieve a maximum 48X write speed and a maximum 48X read speed. In CD-RW writing, it operates with a maximum 16X speed. This is made possible by the Seamless Link III technology, already applied to the BenQ CRW 4012P.

BenQ CRW4816P offers internal IDE, and maximum 48X writing, 16X rewriting and 48X reading speeds. Under optimal conditions, an 80-minute extra-long CD can be written in less than three minutes, making it the best choice for users who require high-performance writing capabilities. For the first time, the CD-rewriter also adopts true CAV for speed control. Starting at 22X from the inner edge and accelerating at a constant angular velocity to a maximum 48X, the average write speed is just over 37X, making it the fastest CD-rewriter in the world today.

Well this sure would be a nice drive for our test labs Can we go any faster than 48X recording? What do you think about this? Do we really need it? React below!
