BenQ is tearing up the world in sales of DVD drives

Kudos to BenQ and their formidable sales staff,
according to
DigiTimes
they have shipped over 400,000 drives in the month of March. Thanks in part to ODM orders, this is the most drives shipped by any manufacturer in Taiwan. Second in sales to Lite-On IT and only when considering all types of optical drives, the BenQ company says it will ship a half million more drives in May. DVD is really on fire!

BenQ expects its 2004 shipments of optical drives to increase by 60%-70% from the 16-17 million recorded in 2003, Wang said. The shipment goal for this year includes 2-3 million slim-type combo and DVD-ROM drives. In addition, BenQ plans to begin production of DVD+R DL (dual-layer) burners at the end of this month.

I guess
they've got their margins set right and are putting out a reliable product. It's mind boggling to me, the unquenchable desire for these DVD units.
