Blizzard using DMCA to shut down bnetd.org

KeiGroove once again used our newssubmit to tell us that Blizzard Entertainment has shut down bNETd.org:

This site has been disabled as requested by Blizzard Entertainment and it will remain closed as we have no legal recourse other than to fight a long protracted lawsuit against a large corporation. This is due to 17 USC Section 512(c)(1)(C) (AKA DMCA, supposedly required to be passed by WIPO treaties). Blizzard claims bnetd is in violation of 17 USC Section 1201(b), though we do not agree with their interpretation. Blizzard says that bnetd itself is the file in dispute, so the whole site must be blocked. Their claim is that because we don't and can't impliment the CD-KEY check in bnetd, which battle.net servers do, that we are circumventing their online piracy checks, and encouraging people to pirate their KEY protected games. We have no choice but to comply until we can get some legal counsel to fight them. We are very sorry for the inconvenience but there is nothing we can do at this point.

You can read the complete message on www.bnetd.org.
