Yesterday DigiTimes came with an interesting announcement. The website claims that Lite-On IT is developing built-in BD-ROM drives for the Xbox 360. After this, several news outlets reported the same and 'unnamed industry sources' have said that the Xbox's Blu-ray BD-ROM drives will begin shipping in the second half of 2008.
Currently Lite-On already is a supplier of the console's internal DVD-ROM drives. If Microsoft really has decided to add internal Blu-ray drives to its gaming console it would be logical that Lite-On takes part in this.
DigiTimes' sources say that the drives will be added to a next generation Xbox 360 consoles. The present consoles use a 210-watt power-supply, while the next-gen 360s will use a 170-watt power-supply, sources say. What do you think, is this one of those typical news announcements you only see on April 1st? Or could this be true, and what can we expect now?
