Walt Disney's Pinocchio, the Platinum Edition has become the 1000th Blu-ray title to be released in the UK, according to figures from the British Video Association.
The milestone comes 28 months after Sony's first Blu-ray titles landed on British shelves, such as The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hostel, S.W.A.T. and Tears Of The Sun. In comparison the DVD format, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, took just under two years to reach its 1000th title.
"This highly significant milestone not only reflects the confidence of our members in the technology but is also an indication of the public's interest in purchasing top quality home entertainment," says Hannah Conduct, Marketing Manager for the British Video Association.
"We expect to see sales going from strength to strength in 2009."
