Buffalo dual format 8x DVD burner hits Japan streets

Japanese website Ascii24 reports that Buffalo, Inc.'s DVM-L88FB dual, 8x DVD burner went on sale today in Japan. Buffalo announced its DVM-L88 series on March 3 as a "low-cost, high-speed drive." While Buffalo and Ascii24 both note that the L88FB is a rebadged LiteOn 812S, Ascii24 also mentions that "during the 4x era, Buffalo offered a variety of drives from makers including Sony, BTC, and Pioneer, all concurrently. The same will be true this time, as well."

The L88-FB is reported as selling at Tsukumo, a major Japanese electronics retailer, for 17,800 yen (about 155 dollars US), or 2,000 yen cheaper than the MSRP given on Buffalo's website.

The other member of the DVM-L88 family is an external drive, with USB2.0/1.1 connectivity. Buffalo plans to release this drive (DVM-L88U2) in mid-March; their news release does not indicate if this, too, will be based on the 812S, although the specs seem identical to those of the internal drive.
