CD Baby pays $10 million to artists while labels sing the blues

According to this report over at Music Industry News, CD Baby has
been able to pay over 10 million dollars directly to independant artists as a
result of profits made from selling CD's with their online store. What is
refreshing to hear is that CD Baby's consignment system has given musicians
access to worldwide sales and distribution, without having to sign away their
music to a record label.

While record labels are
blaming piracy for a lack of sales, music sold through CD Baby has almost
doubled every year for the past six years.

"It's easier than ever
for music fans to find great non-mainstream music," says CD Baby founder
Derek Sivers. "So what's reported as a sales decline for a huge pop star
is actually a sales boost for the less-famous but more-talented musicians
of the world. We sell thousands of CDs a day by artists you've never
heard, but will love when you do."

I don't care about the labels excuses
or piracy or anything like that. What I like is the musicians have an outlet for
their music and don't have some suit telling them how to sound. You have to love
CD Baby. Keep up the good work guys! You may read the whole story
