CD Freaks: Samsung SH-W162C 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW review

Today from Samsung, a leading developer of so-called "Combo" drives, where DVD-ROM and CD-RW technologies have been combined in one disc drive, we have the SH-W162C. Supporting 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, and 6x/4x DVD+R DL/-R DL writing, this hardware should be of interest. Especially now, considering that the precious Double/Dual Layer 8.5Gb recordable media is approaching an affordable price point for a growing number of end users.

European Reviewer and Moderator JanS., has received from Samsung Germany, this latest DVD Burner example and now we will be able to see how the SH-W162C performs in our usual battery of tests.

Can this drive provide consistent quality 16x burns to the newer, high capacity two Layer DVD medias, yet not forget it's roots and still perform well with our old standby, the very inexpensive CD recordables? What about ripping or copying your valuable, but possibly protected, retail discs, will it choke on these? To find out, please visit this link and read the detailed review given by JanS. and then make sure to stop by our forums if you wish to discuss this drive with others in this thread.
