CD Freaks is proud to represent a review of Plextor's latest flagship DVD re-writer, the Plextor PX-760A, which Plextor kindly sent us for review. This is also our first review of an 18x DVD±R burner, as the vast majority of DVD burners on the market have a top speed of 16x top. Even at the time 8x DVD burners and media were common, Plextor was one of the first to introduce a 12x DVD burner with the ability to write at 12x using existing 8x certified DVD+R media at the time.
This PX-755A was one of the first to offer 10x writing support to DVD+R Double Layer media, which this PX-760A also features. Other features include 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW and 6x DVD-R DL writing speed. Like the Plextor PX-755A, this DVD burner also features PlexEraser, SecureRecording, Buffer underrun proof, Silent Mode, SpeedRead, GigaRec, VariRec, Q-Check and PoweRec, which can be controlled using its PlexTools Professional suites. The retail drive ships with a wide range of recording software packages including the full PlexTools Professional suite, a trial version of PlexTools Professional XL and various other trial & full version packages from Nero, CyberLink, Pinnacle and Sonic.

Our reviewer and senior moderator Dee-27 has worked on this extensive review of CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW and DVD±R DL testing, including write & read speed graphs and disc performance tests. As this drive is designed to write at 18x to 16x certified media, please head over to this page to see how this drive handles with this higher write speed, along with the other media tests carried out. Once you have a look, feel free to leave any comments or ask questions about the review in this dedicated forum thread.
