We are
very fortunate to be able and offer our readers a first look at a brand new DVD
dual layer writing format today. Due to the kind folks over at Verbatim Europe-UK, we got a
chance to test out some of this new media. Specifically, they handed over some
of their new 4x DVD-R Dual Layer (DL) media! Verbatim had just finished
internal testing earlier this month and also they have been working
with assorted DVD
burner manufacturers and various software suppliers for the purpose of
read/write and compatibility tests.
Now it is our turn, so luckily,
OC-Freak and Jan70 had some time between other
reviews to scrutinze the new discs by running various tests themselves, using
the following software:

In this first look
article, Jan and OC worked together and thus were able to use several
different writers for the testing. We hope that this advantage will give us some
interesting results:
- NEC ND-3520AW
- NEC ND-3540A
- Philips DVDRxxxx
*
- Pioneer
DVR-109D
- Plextor PX-716A
*The drive name has been
removed/censored since the drive is an engineering sample.
So what are you waiting
for? How do you think this media will perform? Just head on over to the
article page and find out! When you have finished reading the article,
if you have any questions or concerns, you may have
them addressed in this forum thread.
