CD Freaks presents new article: CATS vs. Home-made scans

Disc quality scanning is very popular on the Club CD Freaks Forums but we have a lot of discussions about the usability of the results and some believe that the only true way to determine the quality of a disc is using CAT scanning. One company that is widely known as a CAT scan manufacturer is AudioDev. Their scanning equipment is for example used by many hardware and disc manufacturers and Germany's largest technology magazine is using their testing service.

The company
was kind enough to also cooperate with us on an article that compares
the professional CAT scanning with home-made tools. Our experts Micheal Spath, Jan Svihus and Tor Magne Dyrskog worked together on gathering results, commenting on them and drawing conclusions.

The idea of this article is to compare disc quality scans obtained using professional tools (AudioDev's CATS) with the ones obtained from standard PC drives. We will also discuss about the correctness, accuracy and usefulness of these tools when it comes to disc quality measurement. Note that the comments and conclusions of this article reflect the views of CDFreaks and not the ones of AudioDev.

For everyone with even the slightest interest in disc quality scanning this is a must read article. Finally you can get to know if you really need to use expensive scanning equipment to find out wheter your discs are good or not. Of course we are also always open to discussion. You can post your reactions at the end of the CATS vs. Home-made scans article or in the CATS vs. Home-made scans forum thread.
