CD Freaks presents review of the BenQ DW822A

Again our main drive reviewer
Tor Magne better known as OC-Freak has brought up a new drive review. This time he had a
look at the BenQ DW822A DVD. The drive is capable of writing DVD+R at 8x, DVD-R
and DVD+RW at 4x, DVD-RW at 2x, CD-R at 24x and finally CD-RW at 10x. BenQ also
promises to release a new firmware that allows to burn double layer DVD+R at
2.4x when this media becomes available. BenQ expects to release the firmware in
the beginning of Q4/2004

Here is part of his conclusion:

BenQ has put
together a drive with some clear strengths, just to bad that it's coupled
with some noticeable weaknesses as well, compared it to the
competition.

We can't get around the fact
that it's the first drive on the market that is advertised as dual layer
capable (although a firmware upgrade is required), and many people will
probably buy it just because of that.

Nowadays it is rare to see a
new DVD-Writer with CD-RW writing speed of only 10x and CD-R writing speed
of only 24x, so you should consider this if you plan to have only one
drive in your computer. The fact that it doesn't support 8x DVD-R and 4x
DVD-RW also puts it behind many other
competitors.
