CMC Magnetics, Ritek begin to ship 16x DVD+R discs

Yesterday we posted the press release of
Verbatim announcing it would start releasing 16x DVD+R media in September,
today Digitimes reports that both CMC and Ritek will also start the shipments of 16x DVD+R
media. Ritek and CMC are amongst the largest DVD recordable manufacturers. Once
the companies enter the market they generally are responsible for lower prices.
At the moment however the companies will start with small shipments and they
expect to be fully operational this quarter of the next quarter of 2005.

At the moment the large manufacturers mainly output
8x discs and due to the technological issues with the media it's hard to the
cheaper manufacturers to get their production line up and running. Digitimes reports that at the moment the manufacturers are able to get
very decent margins of 40 to 50 %. Read more information on Digitimes. Discuss
