While Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM) is the only manufacturer shipping DVD+R DL media so far (albeit in limited quantities) the largest Taiwanese manufacturers are now also preparing to start volume production of the discs according to Digitimes:
Top optical disc manufacturers inTaiwan, including CMC Magnetics, Ritek and Prodisc Technology, will be exhibiting 8.5GB single-sided double-layer (DL) DVD+R/-R discs at Computex 2004, taking place from June 1-5 in Taipei.
With volume production to begin in mid-June, the disc makers are sending sample products to potential clients for certification and they are hoping to land orders at the Computex 2004 show. |
The complete article is available at Digitimes here. I wonder if they have got the details about DVD-R DL correct though since Pioneer said about a month ago that it doesn't plan to release DVD-R DL writers until year's end or the beginning of 2005, when the specifications have been approved by the DVD forum.
