CMC, Ritek get class-A verification for 1x HD-DVD-R SL discs

At
DigiTimes this morning, we can read that CMC and Ritek have
begun shipping small quantities of HD-DVD single layer recordable discs. In
addition, they mention that other Taiwan producers such as Prodisc Technology,
Lead Data and Gigastorage, are currently only in the R&D phase, and it could
take until the end of this year or early next year, before we see media from
these companies.

CMC
Magnetics on June 26 announced it received class-A verification for its 1x
HD-DVD-R SL (high-definition DVD-R single-sided single-layer) discs with
15GB storage capacity from the DVD Forum last week, while Ritek indicated
it obtained the same level of verification in late May of this year.
Class-A verification indicates that a product meets the minimum
specifications laid out by the DVD
Forum.
