CMC shuts down DVD recorder factory, focus on FVD

It seems
that CMC Magnetics is not only active in the media market but also has a
subsidary called Actima Technology that manufactures DVD recorders. According to
Digtimes this factory was able to produce 200,000 DVD recorders
per month and has now been closed. Interesting is the fact that the Research and
Development (R&D) staff of this factory will now work on FVD instead of DVD
or another blue-laser format.

Actima's
factory is able to turn out 200,000 DVD recorders per month and the
company will incur costs of NT$70 million as it closes down the factory.
The R&D staff will be move to another office and shift their focus to
FVD (forward versatile disc) development, Wong pointed out.

Actima will also shift its production to FVD players at its
factory in Guangdong Province (China), Wong
noted.
