Cable company charges for phantom DVR box

A few hours ago Dennis Rockstroh of MercuryNews.com wrote a story about Comcast. It seemed that Raymond R. Morgan from Fremont was charged for a phantom DVR box. 'Since February 2007, unknown to me, Comcast has been charging my Comcast cable account for renting a DVR along with the regular cable box,' he says. All these months he never noticed the extra amount he paid and after a complaint filed earlier this year, customer service agents removed the monthly charge and tried to refund the $170 to his credit card.

'I never did have the DVR box or authorized the use of such a Comcast service,' Morgan said. After the customer service agents realised a refund, Morgan had to wait until this was approved by a supervisor. This took a while and Morgan called another four times, and every time his refund was 'under investigation'.

After losing all of his faith in Comcast's service, Morgan decided to ask a journalist to help him. Immediately everybody was informed about the situation at Comcast and Morgan's money was sent to his credit card. As a gesture Comcast added a one month free cable service.
