Canadians are among the greediest software pirates...

On thestar.com we can find an article about piracy. The article mentions that Canadians are among the greediest software pirates... Thanks Lodai for submitting:

Attaining computer programs illicitly is not new but with jacked-up disc drives, CD burners, the advent of the Internet and portable devices such as Apple's iPod, it has never been easier. You're just an icon click away from scoring the latest version of Microsoft Office or a collection of Adobe applications. Admit it. Who hasn't at least once "borrowed" a friend's computer program, whether for writing that final essay or, as in Dubinsky's case, launching your own venture?

That carefree attitude disturbs Jacqueline Famulak, a director with the Canadian Alliance Against Software Theft. She is fully aware that many Canadians, including youths, view software piracy as a victimless crime. It's her job to break that perception.

"Globally, Canadians are among the greediest software pirates '” 38 per cent of software has been obtained illegally, compared to piracy rate of about 23 per cent in the United States."

"We think that's partly because the U.S. has stronger penalties for copyright infringement and also partly because they are a bit better at educating people. It's giving us a bad rep," Famulak says.

Lodai adds: .."Notice they don't mention any other countries in their article? We Canadians are getting a bad rap from shoddy reporting.'"

Indeed completely true. You can read the complete article here and judge for yourself.
