A United State's Trade Representative's office said that China and Russia are among the world's worst protectors of intelllectual property. In a so called Special 301 report, the two countries came out as best pirates. "Pirates and counterfeiters don't just steal ideas; they steal jobs, and too often they threaten our health and safety," US Trade official Susan Swab said. The two 'winners' seem to flood the global market with pirate DVDs and designer bags, but what can the United States do?
The report showed that both countries are improving, but for now the US is concerned. Swab's team will continue to monitor China and push the country to improve its intellectual property rights situation. "While the United States continues to seek cooperative channels to work with China to strengthen that country's IPR regime, high levels of copyright piracy and trademark counterfeiting remain serious concerns," Swab's team said.
To change Russia's IPR situation the United States use Bush. His administration has focused on improving Russia's property protection and for now we see an increase of raids against unlicensed factories.
