Cinram expanding Blu-ray replication

In their recent second quarter financial call, Cinram reported that they will be expanding their Blu-ray replication capacity to meet increased demand for the fourth quarter of this year. Cinram is one of the world's largest producers of pre-recorded optical media, serving many of the major Hollywood studios.

CEO Dave Rubenstein predicts that the fourth quarter of 2008 will be huge for the Blu-ray Disc format and replicators. New equipment has been installed at Cinram facilities, which will help the company pump out shiny new Blu-ray Discs for box office blockbusters such as "The Dark Knight" and other Hollywood films.

With one of the world's largest replicators receiving large Blu-ray orders and anticipating massive demand, it looks like the end of 2008 could be a very positive growth period for the high def format.

Many factors could help spur Blu-ray growth this holiday season. For one, HDTV sales should increase due to price drops as well as the impending analog broadcast shut-off. Other catalysts might include steady Playstation 3 sales, lower priced BD players and of course, compelling high definition content, such as the popular Batman sequel.
