After hearing Circuit City will close all of its retail locations and force 30,000 people out of work, the lure of good deals has caused chaos at many brick & mortar locations. Long lines, chaos, and a general ruckus was caused at several locations, as many bargain hunters were out in full force since the announcement.
The items consumers wanted most -- HDTVs, MP3 players, and video game consoles -- had no discounts, or were marked down just 10 percent. Furthermore, many consumers were left disappointed after finding out that many of the good bargains already vanished from store shelves, or prices remained the same.
I went to my local Circuit City to try and see if there were any good deals on anything in the store.
Like many others, I noticed very little savings on HDTVs and video game consoles, which left me rather disappointed. It was possible to find both PC and console video games on sale, but it was obvious that many of the games are going to disappear quickly once the price drops further.
For those of you who are thinking about heading out to Circuit City to save money, here are a couple of things you may want to take into consideration.
Circuit City executives are relying on four different liquidation companies to help rid the doomed company of its current stock, and items will likely be on sale until March. Furthermore, be aware of what the MSRP of high-price products are, as Circuit City is pushing the prices up to retail before slashing prices for consumers.
All sales at Circuit City are final -- consumers will not be able to return items or get refunds. If you've purchased something before Jan. 16, then the 14-day refund/exchange policy is still good. All gift cards must be used before the store closes, as they'll have no value.
If you've already visited Circuit City, or plan on going hunting for deals, I'm curious to hear if you found any good deals.
