Consumers ready to spend thousands on surround sound

Jupiter research is at it again. This time, they're tapping the Home Theater audience. According to this report over at Music Industry News, only 24% of American homes are surround sound ready. But, Jupiter research has found that folks are getting ready to spring for one and according to their survey, they are poised to spend thousands of dollars on Home theater setups.

"Extremely low priced HTIB - Home Theater In a Box - systems have expanded the market and made surround sound systems broadly affordable, but are not necessarily profitable for manufacturers," said JupiterResearch Senior Analyst Avi Greengart. "However, we found that 47% of consumers planning to buy surround sound systems are planning to spend US$ 1,000 - 5,000 on home theater products over the next 12 months. Consumers have clear feature and brand preferences that vendors can address to move consumers into higher priced, more profitable products," added Greengart.

Well
that's interesting, it says that the surround sound systems are not very
profitable, at least some of them. This could translate to mean, that right now or even in the next months, might be a good time to look into one of these systems, especially if a good one goes on sale. Home Theater is taking off and it's getting hard to even justify going out to the cinema any more. Some of these home systems, coupled with a nice High Definition monitor are tough to beat. Now, if I can just convince my wife that this is the way to go...
