Yesterday we reported that game publisher SUNFLOWERS deleted a .DLL file from the popular CD/DVD emulation software DAEMON Tools. Apparently this was part of a bug and fortunately was fixed. However the software also asked for disabling the patin couffin layer, part of the applications CopyToDVD and Blindwrite which is used by a great amount of our visitors. It seems that this game publisher isn't alone in this as also JoWood is forcing their customers to deactive this
layer when they want to play their games DEL Eishockey Manager 2005 and Sé¶ldner - Secret Wars. In order to start the game one has to follow some steps to disable this layer. And this time it doesn't seem to be a bug.
You can also manually uninstall the driver that is causing all the problems with the VSO "pcsetup.exe" (if that file exists on your PC) with the /removeatip commandline parameter, e.g. do a Start->Run->c:Program FilesvsoPcSetup.exe /removeatip and then reboot. |
Let's hope that this behaviour isn't becoming a new trend. If you think what would be in the line of this trend you could think of uninstalling every application that COULD be used to make pirated copies. As these applications can also be used to make legitimate backups, this forces the consumer in a pirate role.
