According to a news published at Digital Trends, Corel asked for a mandatory upgrade for WinDVD software following the recent crack of AACS protection on HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs.
As anyone can remember, WinDVD was used to discover encryption keys, and now Corel wants to patch this issue forcing a software update. Nothing really surprising in this, but guess what? Corel demands not only that customers download and install the application update, but also an update for their HD DVD and/or Blu-ray drives if they want to watch current or future HD titles. Corel says firmware updates must be obtained from the appropriate drive makers or PC manufacturers.
