Piracy in China is a well known problem and it seems that the country doesn't care much about it because it's still one of the countries with the highest piracy rates around the world. In past we could mainly read about counterfeit movie-DVDs being sold for a price much less than the original discs and the efforts of the US movie industry to reduce this kind of piracy by releasing movies on DVDs earlier than usual and by selling them much cheaper. However, now it seems that counterfeit DVD-burners are becoming more and more a problem in China.
The selling of counterfeit entry-level DVD burners under various brand names, such as BenQ and Plextor forced the Taiwanese makers to lower the prices for those bands to US$ 48-50. These price cuts have boosted the sales but reduced the margins for distributors and retailers of branded products.
Well, now I guess that another few companies (besides the movie industry) will strengthen their pressure on China to force the country to change their low-level anti piracy measures into stricter ones. But from a realistic point of few: I doubt this won't happen.
