DAEMON Tools 2.70 released...

DAEMON Tools is an advanced application for multiprotection emulation. It is further development of Generic Safedisc emulator and incorporates all its features.

This program allows running BACKUP copies of SafeDisc (C-Dilla), Securom or Laserlock protected games. Also included is a Virtual CDROM drive (V386 PHANTOM CDROM) enabling you to use your CD images as if they were already burned to CD!

DAEMON Tools works under Windows9x/ME/NT/2000 with all types of CDROM drives (IDE/SCSI) and supports nearly any CD protection. They have recently updated to version 2.70, and here is the changelog we received by mail:

Again a DAEMON Tools update. Although Macrovision continues and MLS Laserlock starts

lame attempts to blacklist our program we continue our work. Here's the change list of

the new version:

V2.70 (May,13, 2001)

- Safedisc 2 emulation enhanced

- Laserlock emulation enhanced

- Video CD issue fixed

- Standby/Hibernation in Windows ME supported

- Novell Netware Client 32 for Win 9x supported

- Local images and network located images (Windows 9x) remounted after reboot even before manager starts

- Bugfix for BWT images with DCP flag set

- Automatic refresh when number of PHANTOM CDROM

drives is changed in Windows 95/98/ME

It seems that Macrovision and Laserlock also found out about Deamon Tools and trying to prevent it from being used. Here's a quote of the website:

Now here's the latest version of DAEMON Tools. Again we had to work around some blacklists. This time not only our friends from Macrovision chose this lame way to make DAEMON Tools stop working - no, the guys from MLS Laserlock also think this will help. But it won't, of course. And as we're tired of this childish behaviour the next DAEMON Tools version will allow the user to choose the name of the virtual devices.
