DVD Jon creates open source code that sidesteps iTunes DRM

The Register is reporting that Jon Lech Johansen, known for authoring the DeCSS decryption software, has created Windows command line code that will allow the dumping of the output of a QuickTime stream to a file.

While he hasn't decrypted the DRM which Apple uses, he has produced a simple Windows command line utility which will dump the output of a QuickTime stream to a file. The short C program is called "QuickTime for Windows AAC memory dumper". The program requires MinGW and MSYS from here.

An application called MyTunes already performs much the same function, but Johansen's is open source. He released the software on his website
on Friday without comment.

The article goes on to say: When Johansen's program completes, it displays the message "Success! Fair Use Enabled".

Johansen was tried and aquitted in his homeland Norway, just last January, over his DeCSS program.  Prosecutors are appealing the verdict.
