DVD Region-Free allows a user to watch DVDs from any region in their RPC2 region locked DVD-ROM without any risky firmware modifications or where region-free firmware is not available. It also features turning off macrovision and user prohibitions such as not being able to skip the copyright notice.
DVDIdle reduces the DVD rotation speed while watching a movie. Not only does this get rid of that constant whirring sound, but will also extend the lifetime of DVD-ROM drives, keep the drive cool and extend battery life in laptops while watching DVDs.

Having a DVD-ROM drive spinning at 16x can be quite annoying while watching a DVD. This tends to be less of a problem when watching dual-layer DVDs and recordable DVDs as most DVD-ROM drives refuse to spin these discs faster than 6x to 8x.
